In a season that was less than ideal in certain parts of the world for snow fall making it harder to get after the goods, Ride and Dragon riders Beau Bishop and Trevan Salmon still managed to head into the interior of Canada and slay some powder. If you’ve seen the teaser for Turn & Burn then you know this series won’t disappoint. If you wanted to know a little bit more about Beau Bishop and this series you can read the interview below.
How many episodes can we expect?
Beau Bishop: There will be 3 edits in total. We just dropped our BC episode (Which you can watch above), next will be a trip we took to Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada, and the last episode will be a trip to Alaska.
With the push towards more digital media, what was your reasoning behind going this route and how do you foresee the Internet landscape helping to shape your career as a pro?
BB: Well, technically I’m not a pro. But anyhow, there just aren’t a ton of ‘Snowboard Videos’ happening anymore, especially in Canada. So we just did our own thing. Sometime you only have a few minutes of computer time before you head out the door, so breaking up the project into little episodes works well I think. The Internet is great because you can get a lot of eyes on it. People have really short attention spans these days, including myself. So I think it can be beneficial to keep your edits short and sweet and just drop them online.
Last winter a lot of areas were effected with a lack of snow, this didn’t seem to effect you guys. What difficulties did you encounter when searching for fresh snow and areas to film and were you forced to look outside your normal regions to find areas to film in?
BB: It always seems to be snowing somewhere in BC during the winter. It’s a big province. But it is challenging learning new zones. Sometimes you spend the best days just sledding around searching for spots. It’s much easier when it snows at home here in Whistler. We’ve got these zones pretty figured out so it just makes things easier.
Who predominately did the filming and editing?
BB: Trevan brother Keegan Salmon is a filmer so we spent a lot of time with him, as well as David Craig who filmed the entire Alaska segment as well as a bunch of the BC stuff. My good pal Andrew Burns has been taking care of the editing. We sat down and did the teaser together and now he is in Puerto Rico editing the rest of the project in the Sun.
If there’s one thing people take away from this video series what would you hope it is?
BB: We hope people see these episodes and get excited to go snowboarding.
